Magic By Misdirection

- by Enrico Varella
(Based on Bob Chua's Lecture on the 3rd February 2007 SMC Gathering)

[Enrico Varella is the founder and editor of The Quantum Ring, the official newsletter of IBM 115, Singapore since 1995. He has been published in The Linking Ring, and The Encyclopaedia of Card Forces (by Lewis Jones). Magic without misdirection: can this premise work? Can we perform magical effects without the principles of misdirection? The answer seems YES. However, can misdirection enhance the impact of the magic being presented?

A BIG Thank You to all that came to the chalet (some of you went out of your way to be there)! I hope everyone has as fantastic a time as I did. You guys are awesome! The sleep depreviation is messing with my vocab and my grammer but I just want to say I had a really really good time at the Chalet. cool.gif
And thanks to all those who braved the rain to come to our BBQ last night. And a HUGE THANK YOU to our BBQ chefs who continued the BBQ in the rain with umbrellas, Ning, Adrain, Han and Harold. You guys are champions. wub.gif

And a big thank you to some of our special guests for the BBQ.
Uncle Bob, who was also at the chalet for both days with us, for sharing his vast experience with all of us while jamming for hours with us on both days of the chalet. I'm sure all us learnt a lot from your insights. And who also broke the ice of the evening by kick-starting the performances for the evening.
Enrico for being the impromptu "Max Maven of L&L videos" laugh.gif, for joining us for the BBQ and providing the thoughful discussions, and virtually saved the evening. wink.gif
JC Sum, who also bought his Concept Magic team, for spending the evening with us and continunous performance-on-demand, and even shared a Copper Silver routine with everyone.
And Sherman Tjong, who was sharing some of his experience and insights with lotsa people from inside and outside the chalet. And I heard had some sharing session done over supper as well, which I wished I was there for.

For everyone who was at the BBQ, my apologies for the rather "cosy" setup. The weather did not permit the open-air, free wandering BBQ that we had intended it to be so we had to improvise. sleep.gif
We will have a more detailed wet weather programme next time. smile.gif

And finally, a BIG kudos to the people helping put this event together, formally or informally. Big kudos to Jerome and Axl for being OIC over this thing. And Shade, Blackwing, Dry_Gin and Ning who helped them to put it all together. Fantastic job guys! Thank you!
