A common phrase used by impressed laymen to a good magician is a sheepish "I will never play cards with you".
How does one be be proficient enough in card magic to be credited with such awestruck respect? In essence, a tall building requires a strong foundation and a doctor needs good knowledge about medicine. Thus, an entertaining magician needs to be able to perform his card routines well and without hesitation.
Here are the photos of all the various events and activities SMC took part in over the years.
We have photos of a lot more events but unfortunately, some of them are lost over time.
We are looking for more photos of SMC and will be most grateful if you have any that you did not see in here that you would like to share.
If you have any photos of any SMC activities please email aloyeo[at]singaporemagiccircle.com and he will arrange for them to be uploaded.
This was the 1st SMC Close-up/Parlour competition that was held on the 7th of Jan 2005 at Munchie Monkey Cafe, NUS. It was quite a feat putting the event together because, at that time, SMC was only 4 months old and it was one of SMC's most successful events ever. Aloy and Ning were the main coordinators for this event and all the mods at that time helped out as much as they could. It was a ticketted event and we had over 100 attendees filling the place to the max.
The judges for the Competition were: Bernard Sim, Jeremey Pei, Cynwell, and a Layman judge from the Cafe's management.
Children Cancer Foundation's annual fund-raising event Hair For Hope was held on 1st July 2007 at Velocity, Novena Square. Like last year, some of our SMC members volunteered for the event, adding a little magic to the event.
A very simple New Years Eve's gathering at the end of 2004.
We met up to see Jeremy Pei's act in the afternoon at Taka before going for a little jamming at Macdonalds before we each go for our countdowns in the evening.
The 2nd SMC Magic Chalet was held at NSRCC from 20-22 Nov 07. It was a fun-filled magic extravaganza spanning 3 days 2 nights, with magic auctions, lectures, and of course, lots of jamming and sessioning! Here are some photos from the event.
These are photos from the 3rd ever SMC Gathering on 19th Nov, 2004 at the Youth Park Coffee Shop. It was about this time that flourish was breaking out in a big way in Singapore due to the influence of Bone, Huron, Daryl, Kevin, Cai, Sylvester, Justin and other "early" local flourishers and it showed in the number of flourishing moves seen.
There are a couple of faces you might recognise in there, some of them "pre-adolescence"
